𓂃✍︎ The Art of Becoming 🤍🪶

Fathers ‘n’ Sons

Sons are raised to fear their fathers
But I,
I was raised by a different mother
She taught me how to respect my father
Not to fear him
I remember each time I hurt myself as a kid
My mama would sooth me,
“Hii mbaya imeumiza totoo, tutaisema kwa daddy, nyamaza”
(“This bad thing has hurt the baby, we will report it to daddy, don’t cry”)

I think my mama knew what she was doing
She taught me as a kid to believe that
My father was the strongest person ever
And that has never changed
And still never to change

Am in love with how my dad loves God too,
My father’s tells me
“When men pray, things happen”
And I have believed it from his testimonies,
I believe God is true because I see Him true to my father

I didn’t take much after my dad’s physique
Am am my mother’s height
But what I know is
Am my dad’s depth
I took much after his physical activities
What he does, how he does it and why he does
Am no preacher like him
But I think my friends are right to say
I preach much more through poetry, a poetic preacher
I think it’s true
Cz I save relationships from hell
Lol!

My father prays and the Holy Spirit does the rest
I,
I only put myself into situations,
Pray about them before writing
And the Holy Spirit guides me
Am my father’s son for sure
It’s undeniable!

We are brought up believing
Sons are meant to keep a social distance from their fathers,
I have tried believing it
I hardly let my father have an empty seat besides him,
I sometimes share his seat
Because am learning.
Am still learning how to be a man from him,
I never stop learning,
How to ever love my future wife
As he loves my mama.

The last time we had a father to son conversation he said,

“Men aren’t meant to settle down to marry,
men are meant to settle down while married,
Marrying after settling down makes a woman an object you own,
Marrying and settling down with your woman makes her,
your lifetime partner because you understand each others struggles.”

I am still keeping those words on replay.
