In my life, there is no such thing as the future.

Now, before anyone misunderstands me, I am not saying that tomorrow does not exist. I am not saying that we should stop planning or stop thinking about where our lives are headed. What I mean is much simpler than that.

When I speak of the future, I am not necessarily referring to a distant point in time. The future could be tomorrow, later this evening, or even the next few moments. The more I think about it, the more I realize that the distance does not matter. Whether it is near or far, life is never lived there. It is always lived here, in the present moment.

Many of us spend a large part of our lives waiting for the future. And everyone is always telling you to wait. We wait for a better job, a better house, a better relationship, a better opportunity, or a better version of ourselves. We keep telling ourselves that life will begin once we arrive somewhere else.

But what if that somewhere else never comes the way we imagined it? What if, in the process of chasing tomorrow, we forget to live today?

The truth is that the only moment I am certain of is the one I am living right now. Yesterday has already passed. Tomorrow has not arrived. Today is all I have in my hands. That is why what is to come does not occupy my mind as much as what is already here. I would rather give my attention to the day in front of me than spend all my energy worrying about days I have not seen.

This does not mean I ignore the future. No! It does not mean I have no goals or dreams. Like everyone else, I have things I hope to achieve. I make plans. I’m working towards them. But I refuse to place all the meaning of my life in a future that I know nothing of.

After all, what is the future if not a collection of todays that have not happened yet?

If today has no meaning, what makes us think tomorrow will suddenly have one? Treat every day as a valuable part of life itself, not just a bridge leading to somewhere else. The conversations we have today matter. The people around us matter. The work we do matters. Even the small moments that seem ordinary today may one day become the memories we treasure most.

Do not spend much time chasing the future. Live the day that is already here. And if there is such a thing as the future, then today has to be meaningful, because every tomorrow is built from the life we choose to live right now.
